The 2008 annual survey of the American Academy of Physician Assistants showed:

Of the 27,568 PAs sampled (35% of eligible PAs), 2,528 were practicing in Orthopaedics
There are an estimate 5776 PAs practicing in orthopaedic surgery as of December 31, 2009
There were over 344 million patient encounters by PAs, of that, over 51 million were seen for musculoskeletal complaints
